...and yes, that is a cigarette in President Obama's hand (If you don't know, this really happens to be a vise of our president). Upon inquiry, Lucas told me he had seen a picture of the president smoking on the computer (?). Now for some time, Lucas has been overly interested, fascinated, intrigued by the idea that people smoke even though they know it is bad for them. I think he is trying to figure out how to use this information to excuse himself from responsible behavior.
For example:
"Lucas, you've been playing your computer game long enough. You need to turn it off now."
"But Mom, I just can't stop, I'm addicted to it!"
(Does anyone else get excuses like this from their five-year-old or should I be concerned?)
Anyway, at some point while we were discussing his picture Lucas said, "You would think a president would know he shouldn't smoke. I guess he's not that smart." I just smiled.
Other details in his picture include a rather stout bald eagle on the ball of the flagpole, orange shapes by the president "to add some color", and if you look closely some lovely armpit hair.

Ahhh I love to see the things that facinate kids! Make sure you jot that all down with the picture Ü
I think I could read this every five minutes and still laugh just as hard. I have seen a picture of Obama with a cigarette appear as a "facebook" ad along the side several times...maybe he saw it there while social networking? Lucas--I love you!
Fearless AND smart is Lucas! That is a little scary that he knows the word addicted - however, maybe not...he also understands what it means! What a guy.
My kids are president obsessed, the smoking discussion has come up but I quickly changed the subject. One time at the mall Jude saw a lady smoking and commented to me," Why is that lady smoking, smoking is bad for you." . To which the lady said to me in her best ghetto lingo "Whadh' say?".She wanted to fight with a kid about smoking. Nice lady, the child was 3 !
