Although she confidently stated over and over that she was going to ride a horse, I wasn't so sure Jill would actually do it. But I'll be if that girl didn't pony up and get 'er done! As she got on the horse you could see the resolve almost crumble but she kept it together. Her mama was so proud of her.
By the time she made one lap, she had a big smile on her face. She loved it and couldn't get enough of it. When asked if she was a cowgirl, "Yes! I love cows and I love horses."
By the end of it she was even doing a little show-boatin'.
I somehow ended up on a horse too.
The smile says I'm SO not nervous AT ALL.
I really showed everyone a thing or two about how to become one with the horse. Of course my style could have improved a bit if I could have mustered up the courage to pry my hands off the saddle horn...and then there was that impressive amount of bouncing that I probably should have tried to contain. Looking back I think it might have helped had I tried to grip the horse a bit with my knees but I was concerned that the horse might mistake my flailing legs as an indication that I wanted to go faster so I went with the locked-kneed spread eagle approach.
Me and my trusty stead, Spirit, coming off of a trot or a canter or a lope or whatever you call it.
Anyway we had a great time. A big thanks to Desiree for doing all the work for us. Jill is already talking about next time.
Oh I almost forgot, the absolute best thing happened while we were in Tehachapi.
Mia laughed! Three little chuckles all in a row.

Wooohooo! Ride 'em cowboy! Looks like a lot of fun and a very memorable experience for the children. You looked like a natural :)
Oh, I love those first giggles. Also, that reminded me very much of the time we all went to the Tysors and you and Tadd and Alan pretended to be all "confident and farm-like" while Heather and Nathan and I screamed like babies and worried we were all going to die a painful horse-back death. Hehe. Also, what a great picture of Dan and Carmen--you're gorgeous Carmen!
Oh, Meggie, those horses are awfully high off the ground, aren't they. But you did it. Yea! I got on a horse awhile back and was soooo glad to get off! But it was a good feeling to have done it. A feeling I haven't had a yearning for repeating yet! And the weather looked wonderful....(sigh)
What fun! Mom told me about the riding adventure, but seeing the pics is great. BTW, she said that it looked obvious that you'd been on a horse before, because you looked very comfortable!
So many happy memories of last weekend! Jill was amazing -- who would have thought an almost three-year-old could enjoy riding a horse like she did! She was grinning from ear to ear and so were the rest of us! No pictures to prove it but Lucas was pretty impressive on his bike and I hope Lucas's and Jill's seeds are popping up like mine are. Fun, fun time!! Thanks for coming!!
Love from the Tehachapi Grandma
