The Rest of Spring Break

Last Friday we drove up to Tehachapi to visit Grandpa and Grandma for the weekend. It was such a fun, relaxing time. I read a book. A real live book without pictures. I didn't pull out my camera, however, until Sunday afternoon when Desiree saddled up her and her mom's horses for us, so that is what I'll talk about. Does anything really happen if you don't take a picture of it?

Although she confidently stated over and over that she was going to ride a horse, I wasn't so sure Jill would actually do it. But I'll be if that girl didn't pony up and get 'er done! As she got on the horse you could see the resolve almost crumble but she kept it together. Her mama was so proud of her. By the time she made one lap, she had a big smile on her face. She loved it and couldn't get enough of it. When asked if she was a cowgirl, "Yes! I love cows and I love horses."By the end of it she was even doing a little show-boatin'.I somehow ended up on a horse too.
The smile says I'm SO not nervous AT ALL.

I really showed everyone a thing or two about how to become one with the horse. Of course my style could have improved a bit if I could have mustered up the courage to pry my hands off the saddle horn...and then there was that impressive amount of bouncing that I probably should have tried to contain. Looking back I think it might have helped had I tried to grip the horse a bit with my knees but I was concerned that the horse might mistake my flailing legs as an indication that I wanted to go faster so I went with the locked-kneed spread eagle approach.

Me and my trusty stead, Spirit, coming off of a trot or a canter or a lope or whatever you call it.

Anyway we had a great time. A big thanks to Desiree for doing all the work for us. Jill is already talking about next time.

Oh I almost forgot, the absolute best thing happened while we were in Tehachapi.

Mia laughed! Three little chuckles all in a row.

Spring Break

Last Friday I got to help out in Lucas's class during their Easter party and Easter-egg hunt. It was fun to watch him with his friends. The following are a couple of his best friends. According to his teachers he and his girl-friend (not in the 'girlfriend' sense of the word- oh, please no!) pretty much play non-stop together. We certainly do hear a lot about her. He doesn't begrude her the fact that she is taller than him, can jump higher than him and can run faster than him so they must be good friends.

The other morning we found two ducks checking out our pool. Lucas was eager to go shoot them so we could "fry them up like chickens". Who taught this boy to be so violent?!

This week is Spring Break for the kids. Sunday afternoon the McElwee's came down for a visit. We love those McElwee visits. Lucas and Drake hit the ground running and didn't stop until it was time to say good-bye.

On Tuesday evening the weather was just too nice to eat inside. I quickly packed a sandwich dinner and we headed down to the beach.

and because she is growing so fast, a couple pictures of my sugar baby...

Part 3

Sshhh...children sleeping!

Next are a few pictures from an evening walk down by the lagoon and couple of Miss Mia Tortilla as she is referred to around here.

Last weekend we had some Be-Utiful weather so we pretended it was summer and went to the beach with friends and Nathan and the kids went in the pool. I being the cold water wimp that I am, stayed out. Someone had to watch the baby.

I did it! March is officially over. Perhaps I can post things when they actually happen next month. We'll see.

Part 2

Blogger uploader isn't working so I'm moving on the flickr.

One day this month we made it to the Wild Animal Park. It was such a fun family day.

We also made it to the zoo with Julianna. Can you tell our zoo/wild animal park passes expire this month?

My "zoo" pictures...
